Welcome to BYC!

The Learning Center is a great place to start, there are a ton of articles there covering all aspects of raising poultry. This link will take you to the Getting Started articles, hope it helps:

You may also want to check out the meat bird forum since you have Cornish X. Just use the Search feature at the top left side of the screen and you'll get back a lot of previously posted questions & answers about meat birds.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of friendly and helpful members here.

Nice to have you join us!

Hi and

!

Glad you could join our community! Sounds like you have a nice flock. The Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rocks should be excellent layers with good temperaments. The Cornish X should make good meat birds (but shouldn't be kept for laying purposes). I hope all of your birds do turn out to be pullets! Rehoming cockerels can be quite hard and tedious.

Definitely check out the Learning Center for lots of good information: Learning Center Articles If you have questions that you can't find answers to, just ask! We'll be happy to help.

Welcome to our flock and I hope you enjoy BYC! Good luck with your chickens.

I'm glad you joined our community!

Congratulations on starting down the wonderful path of chicken raising! You've chosen some good breeds to begin with! The Cornish crosses will be great meat birds, and the Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds should give you plenty of large brown eggs.

I'd be sure to check out the Learning Center that Wyandottes7 linked to. Also, feel free to ask any specific questions that you have! Other members and I will be happy to help.

Hi and welcome to BYC. It's best to raise the meat birds (Cornish x) separately because their whole short life is centered on eating. They would end up eating all the feed before your other birds could get any.

Thank you everyone for all the well wishes . day one was a success they love their set up right now everyone was well behaved I had to make myself not give them treats I'm just so excited to start this journey !!!

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

My grandparents always kept chickens and other poultry as well. It was at their farm that I fell in love with chickens and made the decision to keep some of my own.
I'm glad to hear the first day was a success!

Definitely check out our learning center.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!

I have been thinking about this all day... If I want to breed my rhode island reds and barred Plymouth but not cross breed them am I supposed to separate my flock completely ? Forever? Or do I just put a roo with a hen by themselves when she's broody ???
