How to poop scoop from pine bedding?

Coop is finally done and inhabitants are in as of yesterday (6 ladies in a 4x8 floor plan coop). I have installed a poop board for scooping and covered that part with sand so I figure a cat litter scoop should work there in theory. My question is, how to I just scoop for poop in the part that is pine shavings without picking up all the pine? If they hit the poop board, how often should I scoop the rest of the floor? Deep litter method is not an option at the moment.

I have 9 hens and a rooster in a 4 by 8 coop. They have full access to the attached run, but the feed and water is inside the coop, as are the nest boxes, so they are going in and out, in and out, all day. There is a 2 foot wide poop board that is under the entire roost pole.

As a result, there is very little poop dropped on the floor inside the coop; my estimate is that 97% or more of their droppings are left in the poop board or outside. What poop that does hit the pine shavings is quickly dried out, and presents very little problem. I add shavings once or twice a month, and change the shavings out twice a year.

So, the short answer to your question is that I don't try to separate the poop from the pine shavings on the floor. Cleaning the poop board keeps the inside of the coop smelling good.

I should mention that I use Sweet PDZ in the poop board rather than sand. I spend about $60 per year on Sweet PDZ, but it's worth it to me.

I have the same set up and after scooping the poop tray I use the long handled scooper to kind of stir the pine shavings a little bit. If I see an obvious clump of poo then I scoop it out. Mostly I stir it a little just to make sure no snakes are hiding in there lol. I also sprinkle a little pdz on the floor under the shavings.

I sort of do the same thing, and my chickens walk on the front side of the poop board, and kick a little PDZ to the floor.

Same here. I haven't scooped poop from the coop floor which is covered with several inches of pine shavings. I add some shavings every so often and stir around/level/rearrange with a rubber broom.I have PDZ on the poopboard and sift it out everyday and dump on the compost pile. No odor.

The coop is 8 x 9 and I have 6 pullets. They have been in the coop for about 2 months. I plan to do a complete clean out in the fall then again in the spring.
