I have 3 week old chicks. I am new to having chickens and so far I am loving it, it's always been my dream. I have 4 chicks, not sexed which is a bit of a worry as hubby thinks if we have a boy we will have to return him to the breeder :-(
They are 3 weeks now, they've grown so much in the last week. Lots of feathers, eating well and very chirpy. We have a nice house for them indoors with a nice warm lamp. I have a house for them to go outside but I know it will be a while before we put them out.
We go on holiday in 4 weeks, only in the UK and an hour away, we don't go far as we have dogs and cats. I am thinking maybe the chicks will still be indoors, as they will only be 7 weeks when we go? and so far the weather is pretty rubbish here in the UK so it's not warm enough for them to go outside over night surely.
Also, regarding taming them. My chicks are quite timid. They have sat in our laps once in the last week, I am scared of scaring them or giving them a heart attack if they are frightened. They aren't that keen on being put in our hands. Is there any way I can help them not be so frightened? how often do you take yours out? We have had them here just over a week now and they are happy. I haven't disturbed them too much as I wanted them to settle calmly.
Thank you.
