I haven't posted in ages, but we just got our first ever batch of waterfowl (10 Pekin, 3 Cayuga, 3 Magpie, and a trio each of American Buff & Toulouse Geese). I was struggling trying to find out if the starter feed I found at TSC had enough Niacin for their leg development and I couldn't find it.

Well I just want to share that I found out the content of the feed by calling Purina Mills (they manufacture DUMOR brand for TSC) and got the Niacin content!

For DUMOR Chick starter 20% the Niacin content is 55ppm. The bag is the one with a chick and a duckling on the front (and is non medicated of course).

This is only the minimum recommended amount for ducks so I still plan on supplementing a bit with brewer's yeast, but it's definitely better than plain chick starter.

I got the minimum niacin content % needed figure here:

I'm not paid to advertise or anything like that, again I couldn't find a definitive answer anywhere so I hopes this helps someone down the road.

So sorry for the delayed response, casportny! This spring has been a busy one!

We fortify each of these products with considerably more than enough to meet the niacin requirements of each of the relevant species. Layer chicks need a minimum of 27 ppm for the first six weeks of life, less after that. Ducklings need 55 ppm, and gamebirds need 30 to 70 ppm, depending on the specie. Purina products are optimally fortified to meet the needs of these various types of birds.

Hope this helps - Let me know if you have other questions!
