Not really sure. Some for eggs, just family use. Also, I have been looking at silkies as they seem fun and friendly for the grandchildren.

Silkies are GREAT chickens especially if you are wanting a calm, friendly chicken that is good around kids. They aren't the best layers but are affectionate and docile. If you are wanting eggs as well as a pet, I would recommend getting black australorps, buff orpingtons, wyandottes or cochins.
