Can someone please tell me if this is a Pullet or a Cockrerel. Until recently this 11 week Rhode Island red looked like Female, until the recent shine on its neck feathers and the curviness on the tail feathers am not so sure. Can someone with more experience help me identify the gender of this chicken.

Comb seems a bit too big for an 11wk old pulley and the tail looks like that of a young cockerel that's about to sprout his rooster tail feathers. Id say it's a male

You know what? I've been staring at the pictures of your chicken for half an hour now, and I'm still not convinced either way!

I wasn't even going to put up an opinion for fear that I might get it wrong and embarrass myself. But then, where's the fun in that? We are all learning, so I'll have a go and take a guess....

The things that make me think cockerel: Stance - the bird is quite upright, and Tail feathers - I agree with @Hatching that they look like they are about to sprout

The things that make me think pullet - The bird has very even colouring, and I really think that for 11 weeks the comb and wattles are reasonable. I know my rhodies all had big combs, and the bird in the picture doesn't have the massive comb I would expect a young cockerel to have at that age.

So tentatively, I'm putting in my vote for pullet. Can't wait to see how this one turns out, and would love to hear other opinions.

Thank you krista74 I sure hope that's so. I think that it's a pullet as well but Reds can be so tricky to identify do to their late development, but I surely intend to let you know what it ends up being in a couple of weeks.

This is an update of my Rhode Island read Poulet which you can see has turned into a handsome hen.
