Rooster roosting on water can,help!

We have a rooster that will roost at night right on top of the water can and gets poo all in the water.The can is angled and we have plenty of roosting area but he insists on sitting there.I have moved there darn thing and he still does it.ANY SUGGESTIONS??? Please!!!??
 
I feel for you because I have the same problem! I will be waiting to see the answer. Mine too is angled. It doesn't even look like there is enough room there but Selina (bantam cochin) finds just enough. I keep waiting for her to slide off in her sleep!

There is always poop on the waterer handle!
 
Tie a rope to the handle on the top of the can and then nail the rope to the roof of the run and he will not roost there. If you do not have a roof over your run then fix a funnel to the top of the can to stop him from being able to get up there. Basically get something up there so that he does not fit or can not stand on top, that will stop the roosting.
 
Take a long piece of twine and tie a chunk of wood to it. Hang it so the chunk of wood dangles right above the waterer. I did this about 3 months ago, and have not had a single bird roost on the waterer since. Whenever they fly up and try to land on the waterer, they hit the chunk of wood and it swings back and forth and scares them.
 
Here's one for ya... How do you keep hens from sleeping in the nest boxes or roosting on them... They are driving me crazy!!! Poop everywhere. I also have tons of roosts... but they insist on roosting on the edges of the nest boxes and inside of them. I have tried going in in the night and putting them on the roosts... to no avail.... *sigh* hens....

we wash out an empty milk jug and cut 1/3 of it off so that it serves as a hat so to speak then put it on top of our waterers and voila! no one gets up there... so far.
dont know about the hens roosting in nest boxes, ours do it too...
 
Thanks for the advice about keeping her off of the waterer. I hung the chunk of wood an it solved the problem!

I had a problem with roosting in the boxes as well. I just stapled an old sheet to the top of my boxes. When I collect the last of the eggs for the day, I drop the sheet over the openings. In the morning when I let them out I lift the sheet. It doesnt get pooy but it does get dusty. I just shake it out and every so often pull the staples out, wash and restaple!
