How many ounces of feed per day do you feed your standard chickens?

I feed them free choice.  Fill up the feeder and let them eat what they want.

You might not be able to keep a bird from landing on your head but you can keep it from building a nest.

On average a standard chicken will eat about 1/3 pound of food per day.

Mine free range from sun up to sun down.  Which cuts down on commercial food.  They also get our kitchen scraps.  I will fill there feeder 3x a week. So a 50# bag last about a month with 26 chickens.

Using the word "exactly" for anything to do with chickens is a waste of effort.   wink

But, what the others said.   Let 'em eat.  There's plenty of threads with people giving input on how much feed (and $$) they go through per bird, if that's what you're looking to estimate.

Wow, I've got some chow hounds then... I have 13 right now... I free feed also, but they are going through a good deal more than that... just going by how fast I go through a 50 lb bag of pellets...

That's really a difficult question to answer because it can depend on many factors such as the breed of bird, age of bird, environment (they'll eat more in cold than hot weather), and whether or not they get to free-range.

Generally speaking however, 4-5 ounces of feed per bird per day is sufficient.

God Bless,
