what is the average amount of days for gape worm to kill a chicken. I just dosed with liquid safe-guard (fenbendazole)

"Gaping" usually starts 1-2 weeks after infection. Then it goes downhill from there. It also depends how severe the worm infection is and the age of the bird. Young birds are more susceptable to picking up gapeworm eggs directly or indirectly. Continued long term treatment is required to end their lifecycle. I suggest that you google the gapeworms lifecycle.
Gapeworm are rare in chickens, normally it's some type of respiratory disease. Submitting fecal samples to a vet will determine if in fact gapeworm eggs are present, and/or other types of worm eggs as well.

Thanks. She is a young bird and has the classic symptoms. We have discovered an infestation of snails in the yard. The snails have destroyed a lot of our garden this year. I suspect the hen ate some of the snails and that is how she contracted.

I have 8 hens. Only one shows the signs. I gave fenbendazole to the hen with symptoms and will give again for 3-5 days. Should I treat the other 7 with fenbendazole? If so, one dose or do the same 3-5 day course?

Dawg is the more experienced worm person here, but for gapeworm, treatment with fenbendazole should be given for 3-5 days, and all birds should be treated. Gapeworm isusually found where the Surinam cockroach is found.

Snails can be hosts for gapeworm. Withhold feed for 24 hours. Then give 1cc safeguard liquid goat wormer orally undiluted first thing the next morning after withholding feed. Worm all your birds in this manner. Then dose them again for the next 4 days early in the mornings prior to feeding. This will be an ongoing treatment for months to come. Insects can remain hosts for several years. The chances of eliminating infective insects is nearly impossible. I highly recommend that you take fecal samples to a vet and have them looked at under a microscope to save you time, money and heartache.

Thanks. I gave the infected chicken 0.5 cc last night. My hen is only about 18-19 weeks old. Her combs are still pink. I 1cc too much for her?
Should I do a full dose this morning? Or withhold feed today and dose all of them tomorrow?
What's the purpose of with holding the feed? Does morning vs evening dosing make a difference?

We have treated the ground with DE to kill the snails and plan on moving the chickens to another area that was also treated.

Sylvia (my hen) died last. Today we cut her open and found the trachea was very red and had pus in it. Lungs were filled with pus.
