Lavender Orpington Pullet or Roo Please

Hello. This is Clarabelle (or C.B. if a roo). She (I am using wishful thinking here and will refer to her as a she from here on out) is a 5 week old Lavendar Orpington (or at least that is what we were told she was). Her comb and wattle development have me concerned that she is a roo. Her behavior puzzles me as well. We had her in an enclosure with our Freedom Ranger chicks, but since they were getting flightly and aggressive as they got older we bought a new chick and moved them to a separate enclosure. Clarabelle has been in a separate pen with a 2 week old Brahma pullet (Sparky) for the past 2 weeks. Clarabelle makes these pretty trilling noises that none of my other chickens make. Do roos and pullets both make that sound? She can be kind-of a jerk to Sparky. If we take Sparky out and put her back in, Clarabelle will peck at her. Also 2 days ago Clarabelle pecked at me. I gently "pecked" back with my finger and she hasn't done it since. Every time I think that maybe I should separate the two birds I see Clarabelle doing something sweet. She lets Sparky sleep under her wing at night. She also lets Sparky hide under her wing when she is scared. Do roos do this?

Thanks in advance!
Jen

If she is indeed 5 weeks old, then she is a rooster! My young roosters made trilling noises, but they weren't pretty; they were more of a scream. Clarabelle might be mean to Sparky because they didn't grow up together. As long as it isn't constant and there is no blood, I would say keep them together. Single chickens are not happy chickens.

Yep if that's a 5 week old bird, it's male. Females don't look like that until they are closer to 10 weeks.

Yup she or I guess I should say he was 5 weeks old in these photos. I got him when he was a couple days old on May 17th. Bummer...

Update...I think the guesses of roo are correct. CB made a rusty hinge sound a couple times yesterday which I assume was an attempt at crowing.

Our male LO just started crowing, he's 12 weeks old. He's not terribly vocal though, just crows at the dogs if they get too near the coop.

I bought a lavender Orpington and she is either very very loud or a roo! Help! Supposed to be about 4-5 months
