SO!?? what time of year do I need to get them, so they'll get big enough for dinner?????? I know they will grow slower then the B.B.W ?????? SO.....????? please help? thanks!!!
should I get them :this summer? this winter? next spring??? PLEASE HELP ME!

I don't think "heritage browns" is a real breed. Sometimes people sell random crosses as "heritage" so make sure you're not getting scammed.

I think usually you get poults in the spring and eat in the fall.

Here's a list of heritage breeds that I know of:

  • Beltsville Small White
  • Midget White
  • Spanish Black
  • Naragansett
  • Bourbon Red
  • Royal Palm

I would go ahead ang get some now.

Get a trio of 1 tom 2 hens. Feed them out over winter. Hens will lay in the s pring if you have an incubator or let them brood you can start on birds for the next year.

Full adult size is attained at 10 to 14 months.

Heritage browns is that the chocolate variety.

Yes, the sooner you get them, the better it will be for Thanksgiving dinner, or if you want to use them for breeding. I raised 2 Royal Palms, a Slate, and a Narragansett, at this time a year ago, and none of them were large enough to be used as a Thanksgiving dinner, even though I sold them, and did not raise them for meat.
