Hello Everyone!

I'm new in the forum

, I have a rooster that has bumble feet, I'm human doctor, living in Baghdad,to be frank, I don't have much access to veterinarians, no access to animals drugs, so my question is after chicken bumble foot surgery what can I use from human medications as topical antibiotic and oral analgesia that won't affect my rooster, I know it's weird but I hope you can help me.

Best regards.

Welcome to BYC!

Keep the foot clean and apply some antibiotic ointment. The foot should get better if kept on clean, dry bedding (old towels or sheets might work).

Best of luck! Hope he gets better soon.

Thank you for your reply and advices , but my main concern is that what human analgesia can I give , Aspirin ? or paracetamol? and what human topical antibiotics like Gentimicin ointment ? Would that be okay ?

Best regards :)

If you are trying to find out what anesthesia use, most people don't use anesthesia on chickens. The times I did surgery for bumble foot, I cut out the core, squeezed the rest of the puss out, flushed it well with peroxide, then bandaged the foot for a while to let it drain. After a couple of hours, I packed it full of antibiotic ointment. Rebandage the foot to keep dirt out of the hole.

Thanks Guys! I already made the surgery to him but I want to take good care of him post op so I'm asking because I'm not a veterinarian and I'm afraid to use toxic drugs, and he is in pain now so I will follow your advice and will give him 100mg human aspirin, that would be fine ? I hope.

Thanks again

I think I excised the necrotic tissue but couldn't dig more ,my treatment regimen is re-bandaging and cleaning the wound with povidine Iodine every 48 hrs as I read from medical websites, I apply topical gentimicin and penicillin vial powder over the wound, what is the expected period for healing ? Is it normal that the pus is drained each time I re-bandage ??

I will post the op pictures but I don't want to be disappointed that I have made incomplete excision but I really felt nothing down there any more.
