Hey!!! I have a rooster in my coop along with my Silkies. I have a month old that the rooster keeps pecking. He pecks him every time he gets a chance. I think that he will continue until the chick dies. I know that the hen that had him should be protecting him but she is not. If anyone has any advise about what to do it would be very appreciated. :)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Personally I would get rid of an aggressive rooster as you do not want him injuring anyone, nor do you want him breeding that kind of aggression into your flock. There are loads of unwanted roosters on the market and you can always find a gentle one. However, if you are determined to keep this one, you can always get some pinless peepers for him. They will prevent him from looking straight forward to peck at other birds or people, but will allow him to use his peripheral vision for eating and drinking. If you are not familiar with pinless peepers, you can see them at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/pinless_peepers.html. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your rooster.

Welcome to BYC!

x2 on Michael O'Shay's advice...no need to keep an aggressive rooster. If you do want to keep him and the peepers don't work out, you will probably do best to make him a separate space where he cannot get to the little one.

Good luck.

I would get rid of it sad to say. I know if they do get in a fight just take a spray bottle of water and spray them with it to break up the fight.

Never a good reason to keep a bad rooster. But did you take any steps to integrate the chick with the grown birds first? Generally you can put the chick in a cage (with feed and water), in with the others in the flock. They all can look but, not injure him. After maybe a couple of weeks, they'll just ignore the chick. Then you could try him free with the others under your supervision.

Your rooster may also know if the chick is a male and wants to eliminate a potential rival but, more likely he just doesn't like chicks or new birds.

Alright thanks for the advise, he's not aggressive to the other chickens but I will try the peepers.
