Nest box from kitty litter container

What size was that bucket? I used one that measured 7-1/2" x 11-1/2". I installed it so it was at a 45 degree angle with the width the 7-1/2" side. It worked fine for my dual purpose hens to lay in but was too narrow for a broody to hatch in. The early chicks climbed up on Mama's back waiting for the late ones to hatch. When they fell off they missed the nest and fell to the floor.
That's about the same size bucket as I had and I turned it the same way too. My girls aren't fat but 7 of the 9 are just bigger/taller and they were struggling to squeeze themselves in there and couldn't really move around very well.
Instead I took a larger wooden crate and a plastic dog food storage container that is kind of squarish, took the lid off and used a ratchet strap to secure them both to a low table sitting in the corner of the coop. Now everyone can fit comfortably, even two at once. I was disappointed, have a bunch of those kitty litter containers and was glad to find another use for them. But I did find a use for the old crate, container and coffee table and my girls are happy now so win/win.
