What is the term for this comb trait, and how does it happen?

I hope I am posting this in the right category, but I could not find another one more appropriate. I have one cockerel with a comb that I don't think it should have and I haven't found a way to describe it to google to figure out what is going on. It is a straight comb but with no defining...

    Barred Rock Cockerel or Pullet?

Hello! We are new to keeping younger chickens and I am worried this one (we already named it Charlie) may become a rooster. Charlie was sold to us as a pullet, supposedly 1 month old, and we've had it for three weeks since then. I say "supposedly" because it didn't have adult feathers on its...

What is the longest that your pullet has taken to develop a comb?

I have 6 pullets that are 17 & 18 weeks old. All are nice size girls. Two (1 & 2 pictured) have small but noticeable combs, one (#3) has a pea comb but it is so dark that it is barely noticable. Three have flat rose combs (I think) but not much redness to the combs, although their wattles...

    Normal silkie rooster growth?

I've noticed that my silkie Lucifer isn't growing the same as the other roosters. He has a smaller comb and considerably small wattles. I know he's a rooster since he was one of the first to get red colour in his comb and he has a silkie rooster hairdoo. He is 4 months/19 weeks old.

Pullet's Comb Turning Grey!? Please Advise!

Please help me understand what's wrong with my little one. I had an Ameraucana pullet die at 17 weeks old on May 12 of avian leukosis. I had an Ameraucana pullet die at 18.5 weeks of Marek's on June 5. Now my 16.5 week old lavender Orpington named Opal suddenly has a grey comb. I hope you...

    Hens or Roosters?

I posted these chicks looking for breed identification shortly after getting them as babies, now they’re somewhere between 5-7 weeks old and I’ve been researching ways to tell the genders. Below are some recent pictures of them if anyone wants to make a guess. I’m thinking the last one is a...

    Buff orpington hen or roo??

Hello, I'm new to raising chicks! I have 2 buff orpingtons that are 6.5 weeks old. One has always had a bigger comb and is slightly darker. But other than that, they have similar feathers and body's. What do you think hen and hen or hen and roo?

    Help! Modern Game Bantam Sexing.

Are there any willing members who are familiar with rearing modern games, who may be willing to offer any advice or input? This is a 3 week old blue/black modern game bantam. It’s comb is quite pronounced, with some redness. I’m wondering if it is a roo, or if this comb development is typical in...

    Black Jersey Giants - M or F?

Purchased these on hatch day Feb 28, 2018. They are 4 weeks old. However, they have been developing very differently with wing feather and tail feather growth. Also, their comb and wattles are also on different growth rates. Here is a link to a recent thread with weekly wing pics where you...

Wing/ Comb Development - Black Jersey Giants

While posting some pics of feet (BJG vs BA) in another thread (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/feet-color-bjg-vs-australorp.1225765/#post-19653593), I was requested to post pics of wings of my BJG. They were hatched on Feb 28, 2018. I purchased from a smaller hatchery (Eagle nest...
