5 1/2 Month old Buff

My BO Hen, BB, laid her first eggs in the last day or so! I was not expecting this for a few reasons: 1. She seems quite small, but she’s my first BO so maybe her size is normal for her age 2. I thought since it’s February (in Oklahoma) that there wouldn’t be enough daylight or proper temperature for her to start laying now!
Is her size normal? Her brooder sister, Hazel, is a 6 month old Easter Egger. She has not started laying yet, is smaller than my 3 yr old Barred Rocks, but is larger than BB.
I’ve been expecting BB to morph into the stereotypical large, fluffy, 8 pound orb but maybe she’s a slow grower. She was also the smallest of the chicks…so maybe we got a bantam

Many hatchery chickens will not get to being their breeds standard weight or size. Orps are also very slow growers and tend to lay later. Such a cutie!

Thank you for the information!!! If she stays small I don’t mind at all of course, just worried about her holding her own with the “big girls”
