ants in the coop/nest boxes

wondering if I can use a powder (flea powder type) or sprinkle DE or ???

Man this is my nightmare. We have red ants in La and they mound so quickly. I had to undo my 4x4 raised bed because the ants kept coming back.

My chickens love to eat ants… I have seen them wait at the top hole and pick them off one by one as they come up. Ants around my place are an endangered species. However if the birds won't eat them, I would use DE on them. Let the little sharp edges cut them to death… and there is no residue. I first found out about DE in the 70's as a media to polish the water in my fish tanks. It could pull gunk out of what I thought to be clean water. Then I used it on bugs/ants in my paver stones, then in the coop to help keep mites and such at bay.

Just my thoughts on the topic,

RJ

I haven't tried it myself, but aspartame as a liquid solution is apparently effective against ants. Not sure how well it actually works, but I think it might be a semi safe way to go.
