He everyone,
I have a diverse little flock of good egg-layers. Recently I noticed my Welsummer sitting longer even after laying eggs. I just checked under her for an egg and felt that her tummy feathers are gone. Is she broody or is this something else that needs attention? I was hoping my silky would go broody so that’s not an issue, in fact it’s desired. I just didn’t think this was a broody breed, and I want to make sure she’s healthy.

I can try. She doesn’t like me touching her. She hasn’t pecked or anything but she’s definitely acting like my silky when she hatched eggs last fall.

You can’t tell by the pictures but her belly is more bare. She really didn’t like me moving her and would lay her head down and make a displeased sound when I would get my hand near her.

I usually wait until they stay on the nest overnight to decide they are fully broody. Some hens take a while to commit.
I agree. She’s been very reluctant lately when I remove her eggs. I didn’t realize until now she was actually trying to be a mother. I just can’t believe her, of all my hens, would be the one to go as far as to pluck her feathers out to nest. It’s so odd.
