So our coop is done and we are in the final stages of completing the attached run. Half of it is going to be covered with corrugated metal roofing, but I am wondering about the top of the other half. DH plans to cover it with 2X4 welded wire, but is that really necessary?? It's on a hill, 7 feet tall on one side and 9 feet tall on the other. Can predators like foxes and raccoons climb that high to get in?

I wouldn't put anything past a coyote! We have a shade tarp/cloth over the top of ours (it's a 10 x 10 dog run). We don't have much coyote threat but we do have hawks. Soon the chickens will be bigger than the hawks though, but we still like it for shade.

Oh yeah we have coyotes too! And bears. And feral cats. On second thought, I'm going to build those chicks a bomb shelter!!! :D

I have never heard anyone complain that they over built their flock security.
