Cypress mulch for duck run?

My duck run is very muddy and I’m concerned about the winter. Can I use cypress mulch in their run? Or will that cause them problems? Is there a better way?

I use pine mulch in my garden where my ducks free range. I have never had any issues. I would think Cypress would be the same. Otherwise, fine Pine shavings absorb water the best for me, in my coop.
