A little late to the thread but I thought the same thing. No way I could afford to shell out $400-$500 for a chicken plucker. So, I decided to make my own with material I had around the property. Best thing about it is there is no electricity needed.

Thanks! I had a bear of a time trying to find none electric plucker ideas, and eventually just decided to make my own. Had an old ride mower that I cut the deck in half , and found the right pipe to fit the already there threads. I was able to cannibalize the pulley’s and the belt. The frame is old lumber that was given to us. I used a heat gun to bend the pvc pipe on the inside of the 55 gal drum and drilled holes throughout so water hits the entire inside of the drum once the hose is attached.
Best part of the entire build is that it’s easy enough that my young kids can pedal while my wife and I do the other steps in processing.
