We just bought a used 100 feet electric fence, it works great but its very long. Does anybody here know if we can shorten it and if so, how?
Thanks in advance,
Elfie

What type of fence? Electric poultry netting?

If netting, you may want to keep it as is, since 100 linear feet is only 25 feet square.......20' x 50', etc. When fully laid out, 100' makes a nice sized pen.

But if you must shorten it, it can be overlapped.......or if you REALLY must shorten it, cut it off about 5 inches or so past a post, then wrap the excess around the post and tie it back upon itself. Save the rest to splice it back together someday.

If it is wire or poly tape, it can be cut and spliced like rope. Just tie the ends together.

Thank you Howard for your input. I'll try the overlapping, you don't think it could shorten out if the wire is on wire? Or did I misunderstand?

If this is the poly netting?????, likely no, it won't short out if doubled back on itself. Once it is upright in the air, it could be left rolled up and still work provided it is elevated on the insulated posts.

What can't happen is for any segment of the netting that has the hot wires woven into it be allowed touch the ground or any other pathway to the ground ( buildings, trees, shrubs, etc.).

So if doubled back on itself, you would have to make sure no part of the netting that has the hot wires woven in it touches the ground.
