I had 4 chicks that were 8 weeks old in a wire cage. Last night something killed two of them. The two were lying on top of each other on the cage floor. Both had a lot of their feathers stripped off from their back and chest. One was almost "naked". The other one had a broad superficial scratch on his lower back and a round sort of crater eaten into his upper back down to the bones. Couldn't see any wounds on head or neck but one may have had a broken neck, not sure. The surviving two chicks looked unharmed but were very nervous. What was that? Must have gotten through a 2 cm hole in the wire. Could it have been rats? Or would a weasel have killed that way? Any other predator?

Will try to take a picture tomorrow in daylight. It's night here now. I've moved the two surviving chicks out of the cage and into the main coop for their safety.

Look forward to the pics.

Glad you have been able to keep the two remaining birds safe from the determined predator :)
