fuzzi's May (First Time With Shipped Eggs) Hatch-a-Long Thread, all are Welcome!

When I walked into the kitchen earlier this morning, I heard a faint cheep...yep, another chick has hatched in the incubator!

Now I am thinking about housing a second brood. I have the A-frame brooder refreshed with clean straw, ready for Rahab and her brood...but what about Tamar? Her nest is in a wheelbarrow in the back, near the roost.

I could use my dog crate brooder with a cover added to keep the flock from 💩 through the top.

Here's the brooder setup I used for Martha's bunch, ready for Rahab and her bunch:

And.... we're up to SEVEN!!!

I moved Rahab and her bunch into the A-frame brooder, the chicks were already making forays outside the nesting box.

I'll set up the other brooder this afternoon, for Tamar and the remaining chicks. The chick in her nest that was zipping had hatched, and strayed, and got stuck between the plastic fencing and the side of the wheelbarrow. It's back underneath Tamar but looks like it got a scrape/scratch.

It and the incubator yellow will be Tamar's. I think Rahab will have her work cut out for her with five. Martha did.

Speaking of Martha, I think the chick noises are making her broody... she's wandering around the coop making loud noises!

I am blessed. I never expected to get this many hatches from shipped eggs!

I refurbished the brooder I'd used for the original Sussex chicks and the Dominique chicks.

I had to place cardboard over the sides as the paparazzi hens were upsetting Tamar! 🤣
