I plan on building an 8 by 11ft coop with a 16 by 11ft run for 22 Light Sussex chickens. My flock will include 20 hens, and 2 roosters. How much would it cost to build a coop of this size?

I built a 6x10ft coop with no run recently using lumber and hardware from Lowes, it was about $800-1000. I don't remember the exact price, and I already own a lot of tools, that's why I say 800-1000. Lumber prices have gone down a good bit since then though.

I probably could have done it for a little bit cheaper, but I wanted something that would last.

Once you determine what actually your lumber needs are, you can go online to Home Depot or Lowe's and put the items into your shopping cart. That should give a good estimate of how much the lumber will be. You can also add in nails, wire, etc., to get an even more complete estimate.

8 by 11ft
Lumber sizes come in multiples of 4. Sheets of plywood are 4x8, for example. You can probably make your coop 8x12 for the same, or nearly the same, price. Then you will be using full sheets and not cutting off the extra foot. Saves a lot of time cutting, too.
