Happy Friday, chicken people!

I just noticed that one of my hens has a cut on her waddle that seems to be slightly infected, given that it’s swollen and puffy. Anything recommended to handle that infection??

Thank you!

I'd soften the scab in warm salt water, re-open the wound, and wash the open wound with straight ACV. I'd keep washing it with ACV until it healed up again. I'd also offer some good treats to support good immune response; meat, probiotics, animal fats, egg, etc. Some hot swelling doesn't mean it's infected, but could be a warning sign that the body is actively fighting a bacterial colonization of the wound. Pus is your best indicator there for confirming infection. Still not a big deal, especially on just a wattle scuff. All IMO :)
