If i were to go the second route would it be better to cross a yellow legged male with one of my hens or vice versa?

Probably yellow legged male.
If any sex-linked genes are involved, that would be the more useful direction.
And if there are no sex-linked genes involved, then the direction won't matter.

Also, it may be easier to find good males, just because so many people want hens :)

That's very true, people post plenty of good looking roosters on facebook.

She must have dark yellow shanks then. Half, & half.

It should be easily bred out.

I found an old photo of her. I havent looked at any of them for such a long time. It is very neat to see all of the changes! You can definitely see the wash on her toes
