NEW BYC Program & Partnership - Sell Your Extra Eggs! April Fools 2011

I love BYC and spend quite a bit of time on here, more than I should, really. But preying on people's hope for some financial respite, in these scary economic times, is not particularly funny. I thought the joke was in poor taste. JMO

I have 11 1 year old hens, they lay about a 1 1/2- 2 dozen a week, maybe more...don't really keep that close a tab cause I eat them! They are free ranged on 7 acres and eat good layer pellets, BOSS, scratch, cabbage, and whatever they find while free ranging. They are Buff O's and RIR's. I have another 7 in the brooder now, SLW's, plus a roo. They are a month old. So I will eventually have 18. My DH had been selling our extras at work for $3.00/dozen, but this would work too. Just let us know when and where!

Well, I thought it was hilarious. I was trying to figure out how to name 50 chickens. Figured Id name them One, Two, Three, Four, Five....

Didnt we all jump on being able to make a little money on what we already have and do anyway? And as far as people thinking they were going to make a lot of money, the most you could "make" on this "program" is $15 a week. I dont think that was going to make or break anyone. I think its particularly funny how people obviously do not READ threads. And it sure brought a lot of newbies out of the woodwork, didnt it?

I fell hook line and sinker.....bwahahahahha!!!

OK, I guess I need to fess up here....

Thank Goodness, there really isn't any Jess K, a single mother of 5 children, living in a single wide trailer with her kids, Jess' mom and granny, just trying to get by...trying to make a little extra money, spending $200 on 20 new hens she can't afford, with Jess' son Willoughby trading his old truck for a new shed for his mama so she can raise those extra 20 hens because Jess read on BYC that there was a new program that would buy her excess eggs for the princely sum of $2.97 per dozen.

They might not admit it, but JESS FOOLED THE MODERATORS because they added a IMPORTANT NOTE to the original post announcing t he BYC egg program after poor little Jess bought those extra hens:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT go out and buy more chicks, trade your dog for more chickens, buy a new plot of land, mortgage your house, borrow money from the guy on the corner, etc. until you are APPROVED for this program!

So, the smarty-pants moderators were pranked themselves--they did not ADD my "embedded joke"--they were fooled by a poor single mom of 5 , living in a trailer with her mom and granny.....

and it was sweet!

Some kind of WONDERFUL! My roosters are now laying and my Thelma and Louise (buff laced Polish) have started chasing the Eagles off.

Ditto for Halos comment. Brindlebtch reread ur signature line and take a deep breath. I did initially get taken in but quickly realized it wouldn't fly because the government has to stick its nose into EVERYTHING.

I don't think anyone responded out of greed. There was NO money to be made in an endeavor like this. Just because "some of us" were savvy enough (or anticipating an April Fools joke) to know this wasn't for real, doesn't mean those who responded enthusiastically were greedy.

I think the majority of folks were hoping to do nothing more than offset the cost of feeding and caring for their chickens and to have the pride of knowing the chickens they love were going to participate in some really cool BYC thang.

It's not greed they were guilty of, maybe pride? JMO

I personally would have steered clear of any joke having to do with money, no matter what, but hey, it WAS funny if you are into practical jokes.

ETA: Which I am NOT.
