Only 1 Hatched

So as a result of a dodgy incubator I’ve ended up with 1 lonely chick.

I have another 12 eggs due to hatch next week. Is it ok until then? What can I do to keep it happy? Or is the only way to go and buy another day old?

I would say buy a friend or two for it. The poor thing will be really lonely, as you can’t be with it 24/7.

Congratulations. I had two hatch out of twelve on Monday (under a broody). I'm not an expert on this so not sure what I would do, but I think possibly buy another one or two DOCs if I could. When are the others due to hatch next week?

They’re due next Tuesday so possibly 7-10 days on it’s own

i heard if you put a mirror in the brooder with them or a small toy it helps them be less lonely. i would interact with it as much as possible (pecking ground and water with your finger etc) until you can get more chicks.

I'd also get a playmate for it.
7-10 days is too long to be on his own.
A mirror is an interesting suggestion, but it doesn't replace playmates.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I did go and buy another 2 day old yesterday. Here’s hoping I don’t have 2 boys!!
