My sister bought 6 chicks from TSC on March 31st of this year. 3 Black Australorp and 3 Buff Orpington. I cannot sex them like I could a younger batch I bought from Orscheln's a couple of weeks later. They are free-range so I tried my best to get as close as possible and from different angles. 2 of the blacks (1 and 2 in pictures) are crowing and mounting my laying hens. The one labeled 3 looks more like a submissive Roo. The buffs are molting and some days look hen-like and other days look Roo-like. Both buffs have not crowed but they do stand off with each other and occasionally with one of the blacks. The buff number 5 is more shy and it was more difficult to get clear pictures of it.

Thank you for the fast reply. I have to agree with you. I find it odd all the TSC chicks are possible roo's. The one buff I knew was a hen for sure I gave to my daughter because she had a buff hen when she was young so she fell in love with it.

I love Buff Orpingtons :) I don't know about TSC having roos as we live in Australia and you don't get them here, but it does seem a bit odd.
I guess TSC won't even let you pick your own chicks anymore. I don't even want to buy chicks there after all the roos in this batch. I really need to find some black hens now. Unfortunately, that was the one breed Orscheln's did not carry.

Not sure where you are but I had a really good experience with ideal. Got 20 chicks from them and they were all pullets. Didn't lose any in shipping either

I have never heard of them. I will give them a try in the fall. Thanks
