I went out and got a pair of muscovy's and made a nice enclosure for them in my chicken run. I want to get them accustom to our routine before turning them out to free range during the day. For some reason all they do is roost, 99% of the day. If I throw food on the ground they will come down to get it. Is this normal?

It's said there more closely related to geese but yes, they roost SO normal... my drakes don't so much as they are quite large but all the ladies do.

My duck is in the barn with her young and she's usually up on the shelf in there while the babes are on the ground... poor guys! I actually have boards set up by their barn so they can roost out there.

Muscovies are tree ducks. like the wood duck they prefer a tree cavity to nest in and trees to roost on.
