Silky Sexing

I know this is everyone’s favorite.

I have two Silked EEs. One hen and a rooster. My hen went broody and hatched one of her own eggs and a couple of other hens’ eggs. My Silked EE chick looks exactly like her/his father. Because of the silky feathers and bantam sizing, I cannot tell what she is, but I’m starting to lean towards male. Her tail feathers make me very suspicious, and she’ll peck at me occasionally when I try to pick her up.

My chick is 12 weeks old. Her father started crowing at about 15 weeks.
Mom has a “poof” on her head and the chick does not. The last picture is of dad, mom, and baby… they are impossible to get a good picture. Any experts want to weigh in on whether she’s a male or female?

That’s what I’m thinking too. Bummer. I really wanted my hen to have another hen like her for a buddy.

Yeah. It’s hard because this is my only chick of this breed that hatched so I can’t compare sizes. I knew the father was a rooster because I could compare his size to the other one. I have a few more chicks that were sired by the same rooster but by different breed moms, so comparing them is difficult.

Ah, makes sense. Soon enough you should know the gender.

To me it looks like a pullet. Time will tell though.
