What could this hole be from...w/ pics

Hi every. Brand new to chicken keeping and all that. I have 4 hens in my back yard. The run is very secure. Completely enclosed with hardware cloth buried 12 inches deep. Tonight I got home from work to lock my coop up and found a hole dug from the inside of my run trying to get out. But didn't dig under the hardware cloth. Also my chickens were huddled in a corner of the coop not on their roosting pole, and there was an excessive amount of food spilled from my hanging feeder. I don't think anything could have gotten in there, but I guess that's a possibility. Is there any way chickens dig holes like this at all? If not any ideas on what it could be and how I can get rid of it!

I have never seen that but could it be a rat?

I am wondering if it burrowed up from under your run?
