Yolk Color

When I first started raising quail, the yolks were a rich dark yellow. It's been a while since I've done anything other than hard cook eggs, but yesterday, I decided to scramble a batch. Their yolks were much paler than I remember and maybe even as pale as store bought eggs. Could the difference in yolk color be due to a feed change?

Originally, I was feeding the 30% Purina Game Bird Starter and transitioning them to a 22% Naturewise Meat Bird. It could be....do they have access to leafy greens, grass, etc?

I would say it's most likely caused by the feed change.

Not really, but I sometimes give them bean sprouts, though it's been a few weeks since I did.

Giving them "greens" will darken the yolks.

I guess I'll start sprouting again. They really seem to like the mung bean sprouts and alfalfa was a close second. Thanks.
