I always knew that my one Novogen (whose sister flew away last year) and my Buff Brahma (whose sister died young) both didn't count, but now I have the proof!

It seems to me that the blue barrel is the nest; I'm guessing that calling it a coop was an unintentional mistake by the author. I really do think that this article deserves a higher rating than it has. The build seemed very well thought out and documented. It is an original way of using an old trampoline, different from other trampoline builds I've seen.

The backstory made this article a joy to read. My father became a "Pop Pop" also to my two children and when I read that Pop Pop died, it really hit home. There could be more pictures of the coop, the outside and the inside and this is why the ratings aren't very high, but I can overlook that. I know that it was a playhouse before and I know how simple they are inside. Provide more info on how you got it to where it is and the ratings will rise :)

Even though you don't have build pictures, your descriptions are good enough to not need them. I really enjoyed reading the whole thing. Definitely inspiring!

This is incredible. Including the fact that you uploaded detailed plans for others to follow. I love how you gave specific advise about important little things that others may overlook, such as the angle and grip-ability of the ramp.

Incredibly detailed and informative article. The humor was subtle and perfect! Did you ever do the green roof? Did the new rooster work out? I love your common sense use of recycled materials balanced with new materials. My husband and I are working on our new homestead and we are making decisions like this as well: What we can make or reuse and what needs to be store bought. I feel like doing it this way adds to the creativity. Well done!

Love this coop! I would have given 5 stars if the build process had been discussed.

I also have been thinking a lot about plastic usage. We have always used plastic grocery bags for our used kitty litter. I wanted to get away from this, so after doing a ton of research I decided to compost our kitty litter instead of sending it to the landfill. I follow the same procedures used for "humanure", which can be googled. I did switch from clay based litter to corn and/or wheat, which costs more, but I'm hoping that the cost will go down once the compost is usable (in two years time, and not on veggies). There is a great website which offers completely free instructions on how to build the bin: http://humanurehandbook.com.

Now when I go to the grocery store I can use my reusable bags without saying, "plastic please".

You've given me the idea of painting the inside concrete walls of my coop. I am inspired by you.
