My Composting Adventure

Great job on the write up as well as the job! Sounds like an excellent composting solution. I think you should do a worm bin to continue to improve your soil too. Next season perhaps?

YES! and then I could have access to homegrown fishing bait too!
I gave you five stars, four for the current article and one a s a credit and motivation to add some pictures of that three bin compost maker. I have 17 ducks who produce an endless amount of poooop and we have the same kind of cr@ppy soil here too, loam with shale-rocks and clay below and i am desperately looking for a compost solution. - On top of that i have almost no flat land…

The lack of flat land can be ok. Slopes provide drainage. You can terrace, make mounds and swales or use raised beds.

As for the 3 bin setup, here is a pic finally posted in the article. My middle bin is still cooking, but I moved it over to start a fresh pile in the first bin. That middle bin is breaking down nicely though. I cannot identify and leaves at this point and it was mostly leaves and poop. There's quite a bit of fibrous material like stems and twigs that still have not broken down and the pile is still hot in the center. I just stirred it 2 days ago.
This is a good article on composting, and the picture is great ... but some of us (... ahem ... ME!) aren't as technically minded as others. A build-diagram or a link to easy-to-follow instructions would rocket this article's review to "Excellent!"

Thank you for the review.
I tend to figure things out as I go - just the way I think and work. I am happy to answer any questions if you are interested in building tumblers. I also just built a 3-bin compost setup yesterday. I haven't had a chance to update this article with that just yet.
