Our chicken coop is about 8' x 6' and is based on many of the different coops I saw pictures of on here. My husband's godfather built this for us. I just told him what I wanted (tall enough to stand up, exterior nest box, etc.) and he designed it from there. It took him about two weeks (he's retired and the weather was unseasonably great). I love it!
We'll eventually have two runs attached to it - one on each side. He made it so that I can open the chicken doors from outside the runs (as I rush off to work in the morning). I just have to pull the PVC pipes that are in front of the chicken doors to let them drop. To close them, I just pull the ropes and then push the pipes across the doors again. They'll need to have a little weight added to them to help the dropping process. I still have to put roosts up and finish putting up some of the hardware cloth.
