Chicks and Lilacs

Chicks and Lilacs My attempt at using chicks and flowers. These chicks are just a day old. Polish, Japanese Bantam, and Red Shoulder Yokohama.     All in all, I love the first pic, and I am sure all the people who drove past the house and saw me laying on my tummy in the front yard with a camera may have thought I was pretty nuts. I am happy with how they turned out considering I was using a toddlers camera.                 read more

Are my chickens getting sick?

Help!  Not sure if my chickens are getting sick or not.  I have 9 chickens that are about 3 months old.  We've had 7 of them since they were a week old, the other 2 are "new."  My husband bought them at a local chicken exchange sale, we isolated the two newcomers for the recommended 2 weeks.  They seem just fine, healthy and all are beginning to get along.  But, two of my "original" flock chickens, Charlotte, my large, fluffy Brahma, and Oreo, our Bantam Rooster seem to have developed a "cold." They appear fine, eating, running around, doing their free range thing and... read more

Miss Frizzie & Mr Boots

I bought these two as Banty straight run chicks at the tractor store with 8 other various chicks. They are 12 weeks old and I believe they are Banty Cochin roosters with one becoming a Frizzle. Mr Boots is smooth with feathered  legs. He is very aggressive towards new chickens and runs around acting tough. I call it his little man complex. I have handled them since day one but they still run if you reach down to pick them up. On this particular day I took them away from their siblings (other breeds), and they cuddled right up as they were out of their comfort zone.... read more

Faith

Faith is my newly hatched Silver Campine chick. A few weeks ago I received 16 hatching eggs in the mail from Wisher1000. Despite Wisher's wonderful packaging, shipping was really hard on the eggs and Faith was the only chick to hatch.    I was really excited when she started chirping and wiggling in the egg. And then a pip!     She continued to wiggling and chirp after she pipped and then the next morning she began zipping!         And she is out!       Once Faith was all dry and I knew that the other eggs were not going to... read more
