Hello,

We have four 3 1/2 week old chicks which we got from a local feed store. They got them from a hatchery. I have some experience with deworming and vaccinations with my family's cattle but have no experience with chickens. Questions:
1. Age they should be vaccinated/ dewormed (if they need to be)?
2. Are there ways to naturally deworm?
3. What are some good products you've tried?

Thanks for the advise!

Hi Shelly, there's lots of good information out there in books too. Most backyard chickens are only vaccinated for Marek's disease, which is done at the hatchery as day-olds, not later. Birds from the feed store won't have been vaccinated, but probably that won't be a problem for you. Worming is done maybe twice a year, later, if problems develop. Amprolium treated chick starter manages coccidia very well, and is a good idea to feed. "Natural" dewormers are fantasy products with no actual research behind them. Lots of hearsay, no data. Welcome! Mary
