Just got back into the chicken business. I have 12 hens and one rooster. 8 hens are Buff Orpingtons and 4 are Lavender. I have a Lavender roo.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. My wife and I were both raised in the great state of Texas. Orpingtons are a wonderful breed; hardy, friendly and gentle, and good layers of large, brown eggs. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) has made lap pets out of ours. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Sounds like you have a lovely flock!

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our roost!

I'm mentioned this in another thread but I didn't really want Opringtons but they are what I could find this late in the year. I have to keep my chickens in confinement being in town. They're really too big for my space and their tendency to go broody will hurt my endgame, which is selling eggs locally. I'm going to keep them 18 months and then sell the complete flock. Someone will pay well for a nice healthy 18 month old laying flock of Orpingtons. After that I'm going to keep Jaerhons and Leghorns and rotate them every 18 months. I hope it works out ha ha.
