First off, the *fine print* as noted by MP on her previous block swap thread.

This swap is not endorsed by BYC (owner, website, staff, etc.). The BYC Staff is not responsible and will not mediate if something goes "wrong" or a deal goes "bad". If you choose to participate in a swap, it is best to know who you are swapping with and not to swap more than you can afford to lose.

The BYC Staff is sensitive because of past swaps. We want our members to feel comfortable having fun with these and other social interactions, but please keep in mind that there were issues with some organizers and swappers bailing in the past.

Like any other interaction: Have fun, but be careful and safe!"

Ok...here's the swap info!!!

For this MYB swap, we will send our swap partner a pattern requiring 1 skein of yarn and the yarn to make the project. (correct weight, type, yardage/ounces, etc). The pattern should be left outside of the MYB, so that your partner can work on the project and find the hidden items inside the MYB as they work on their project. Some, though, unwind the yarn as soon as they get it because they can't take waiting to see what's inside!

Here is a fantastic description of a Magic Yarn Ball:

Guidelines:
Inside your MYB should be 13-15 prizes, of which 3-4 of them should be made by you. The handmade things can be crochet, knit, sewn, woodwork, beaded...anything made by you that you feel your partner would like. Feel free to exceed these guidelines, but these should be used as minimums...but yet, don't go overboard, either.

Please do not send photocopied patterns from books. This is against copyright laws. There are millions, literally, of free patterns on the web, or free ones at the stores. You can purchase a book to send, but that is just an option if you so feel inclined. This is an opportunity to share with friends!

If you join this swap, please copy the following questionnaire, put it in your reply and answer the questions about yourself. This way, your swap partner will know more about you and what to include in your MYB.

Please post that you are *in* and then:

1. BYC name:

2. Are you willing to ship outside of the US if needed?

3. Do you prefer your pattern to be for knit or crochet or something other? What is your skill level for this technique?

4. Any stitches or techinques you are interested in learning or experimenting with?

5. Your favorite colors? Your least favorite color? Do you prefer variegated yarn or solid color?

6. Preferred yarn type(s)? (Ex: wool, cotton, bamboo, acrylic, mixed fibers)

7. Do you spin?

8. Any yarn or other allergies?

9. Any cats or other common allergens INSIDE your home?

10. Give a brief summary of yourself. Likes/dislikes, etc.

ALSO please PM me, the swap organizer with the following info:
Your BYC name
Your Real name
Your mailing address
your email address

DATES:
Signup Deadline: January 31, 2009
Partner Names will be posted: No later than February 3, 2009
Packages to be mailed: March 9-12, 2009

Packages are REQUIRED to be mailed via Priority Mail and also send with delivery confirmation. Shipping should run you around $5.00-$6.00 or so, within the US.

If you have any questions, please post to this thread and I'll get them answered asap!

Remember this is a BYC MYB swap...so be assured pretty much any partner will like chicken-y things

This is what I found about MYB Swaps on the internet:

"A magic yarn ball is a gift-filled treasure, made for another person. This sweet, simple project comes from the book The Children's Year (Hawthorn Press).

Basically, you wrap cool little treasures up in a ball of yarn, with a few beautiful gifties peeking out at the edges, and give it as a gift. As the recipient crafts with the yarn the treasures fall out one by one, and they discover the fun as they knit or crochet.

This is a swap of magic yarn balls. "treasures," can be special single buttons or beads to little sets of stitch markers, tapestry needles, or very special bits of vintage ribbon and fabric. Round toys such as superballs or homemade bottlecap pincushions make excellent centers for starting your ball.

I did a MYB for my SS gift, but haven't heard if Guitartists received it yet, so don't want to post photos until I know she go it.
