Homemade laundry detergent. This fills a 200 ounce detergent bottle. Please read all instructions before making.

What you Need:
1/3 Bar ZOTE soap (you can get this on the spanish isle at Dollar General for $1 a bar and you get 3 helpings from it)
1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax (you can get this at you local grocer for about $3 in the cleaners isle)
1/2 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (this should be near the Borax for about $3)
3 Quarts of boiling water (you will also need 5 more quarts of boiling water)
Big "old" pot

Directions:
Put 3 quarts of water in the pot and bring to a boil. Grate soap into the water and stir until melted. Add Borax and stir until dissolved and then add the washing soda and stir until dissolved. Cook for about 1 hour until it begins to resemble honey (it will stay pink). Put 1 quart of boiling water in a 5 gallon bucket and then add the mixture and mix well. Add 4 more quarts of boiling water and mix well. Let stand for 12 hours before using. Let cool for a couple of hours and then you can use the top of a milk jug for a funnel and fill your detergent bottle. Pour slowly. When it is set it will resemble chicken fat, but don;t be concerned, you can put some in a small pot and heat it up slowly on the stove top and bring it back to a liquid. This is what I do because I have a front load washer and it works well for me. Use 1/2 to 3/4 cup per load.

If you would like to have a scent, just add about 10 drops of any essential oil that you may have.

This is a low sudsing detergent which is great because it helps lengthen the life of your washer.
 
Homemade Fabric Softner

What you need:
1 cup baking soda
6 cup white distilled vinegar
8 cup warm water
10-15 drops of essential oil (optional) for scent
1 gallon empty container ( I use an old fabric softner jug)

Directions: FOLLOW CAREFULLY
1.) Put soda in container
2.) Add 1 cup warm water and swish
3.) Add all 6 cups of vinegar A LITTLE AT A TIME because it will foam up quick (all I do is swish it around in the jug).
4.) Add 7 cups of warm water and swish some more. MAKE SURE TO VENT IT.
5.) Add essential oils (optional) for scent

Store and use as you would use store bought. Hope this helps you save some money. I just go ahead and stock up on the ingredients for both the detergent and softner.

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe

Peanut Butter n' Honey Crunchies

1/4 cup honey
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
2 cups chicken broth or water
1/3 cup peanut oil 1 cup rolled oats
1 cup oat bran
3-4 cups oat flour

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C).

In a small dutch oven or large saucepan, combine honey, peanut butter (try to find a brand that has no added suger, salt or other ingredients; ideally it should only contain peanuts), chicken broth, and peanut oil. Heat, stirring often, until mixture begins to simmer. Remove from heat. Stir in rolled oats and oat bran and let cool until lukewarm -- or cool enough to work with. Gradually blend in oat flour, adding enough to form a stiff dough.

Transfer to a floured (oat flour or rye flour) surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball, and roll to 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Use a mini-cookie cutter or cut into small squares. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4 inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits. If the dough becomes too crumbly to work with after a few rollings, sprinkle with a little water to bind it together and knead it for 30 seconds or so.

Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over. Bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until golden brown on both sides. After you finish baking all batches of biscuits, turn off the oven, spread all the biscuits in one baking pan and set them in the oven to cool for a few hours or overnight. The extra time in the oven as it cools off helps make the treats crispier. These make a more delicate crunchy biscuit, so we use them more for special or training treats, not tartar control.

Makes several dozen small treats that keep and freeze well.

Homemade Dog Treat Recipe
Cheesie Bacon Biscuits
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 stick margarine, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups regular oats, uncooked
1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
2/3 cup wheat germ
1/2 lb. bacon, cooked crisp, drained, and crumbled

Combine flour, soda and salt; mix well and set aside. Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour mixture, mixing well. Stir in remaining ingredients.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 for 16 minutes. Cool on baking sheet for a minute or so before removing to cooling rack.
 
Fajita Seasoning
4 tbsp chili pwdr
2 tbsp grnd cumin
2 tsp grnd oregano
2 tsp garlic salt

Stir well and store air tight.....use 2-3 tbsps of mix per pound. Cut the meat in strips then put it in the pan with strips of onion and green pepper. Then add 2-3 tbsp of fajita seasoning and just a couple tbsp of water. Cook fast on a high heat... add only a little water if needed, a tbsp at a time until the veggies are tender enough.

Homemade Chai
1+ cups nonfat dry milk powder
1+ cups powdered nondairy creamer
1+ cups French vanilla-flavored powdered nondairy creamer
2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
2 tsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp ground cloves

Put all in a 1-gallon bag. Mix like crazy. To have a finer, smoother mix, put in blender and blend until fine particles.

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix
6 tsp chili pwdr
5 tsp paprika
4 1/2 tsp ground cumin
3 tsp onion pwdr
2 1/2 tsp garlic pwdr
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp salt
Stir together and store in air tight cont. Use 2 - 3 tbsp of it in place of the store bought mix.

Vanilla Pudding Mix
3 cups instant nonfat dry milk
4 cups granulated sugar
1 t salt
3 cups cornstarch
1 vanilla bean

Mix all. To use, stir the mix. Measure out ½ cup into a saucepan. Add 2 cups milk and cook over low heat, stirring, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Continue stirring for 1 min, remove from heat, and pour into serving dishes.

Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
½ cup boiling water
1 cup nonfat dry milk
2/3 cup sugar

Place all ingredients in the blender. Process for 2 min. Allow to cool. Store in fridge up to 1 week.
 
Another liquid laundry detergent(this one doesn't have to be reheated for use.)

1/2 bar FelsNaptha
1/3 c. Borax
1/3 c. Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (don't stress this one if you can't find it....just double up on the Borax and the recipe is just as effective!)

6 qts. water

Grate FN soap and combine all ingredients in the water, let heat until soap is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Separate the mixture into 2- 1gal. jugs (I use SUN detergent bottles, as the pour spout can be removed easily for taking the mixture, the cap is handy for measuring the detergent, and the opening just happens to fit my canning funnel!) I also keep 3 on hand. That way one is in use while 2 are empty for a new batch.

Fill to top with tap water and shake vigorously. Let sit for 24 hours. Shake well again before use. It will have gelled clumps that break up easily and dissolve readily in your wash. This will not suds, leaves clothing soft with no need for softener (even line dried clothing) and no added smells.

Option: The original recipe calls for an optional essential oil scent but I have found, though it makes the detergent smell heavenly, it doesn't carry over to the clothing. If the detergent is working properly and breaks up oils in the clothing, a carrier oil for essential oil will break up and dissipate also. This soap smells wonderful on its own!

Depending on what you pay for your ingredients, this will yield 2 gal. of detergent for under $1!!! Each jug is a 40 load jug.....so 80 loads for under $1.
