I built a model chicken coop for the 4H as my Eagle Scout Project.
The 4-H offers young people an opportunity to participate in a series of activities designed to improve citizenship, sportsmanship, character, competitive spirit, discipline, responsibility and livestock knowledge, while creating an atmosphere of personal development and awareness of life around us.
As a part of their Livestock Program, the 4-H offers workshop training classes to educate individuals on how to properly raise chickens. With this education, raising chickens will become more visually pleasing, more sanitary, and more secure.
As a result, the 4-H hopes that the public perception of chickens will improve and become more acceptable for many counties. This Eagle project will benefit the 4-H by providing a replicable model that demonstrates how to construct proper housing and a compost bin for sanitary purposes to use in raising chickens.
The coop will also be on display at the Martin County Fair each year.
