This is the family of American Game Bantams that I own. The hen on the right is cornellia; shes the mother. Last summer a beat-up wing-clipped skinny chicken wandered into my yard. I started feeding her and she stayed... a week later she dissapeared and for the next 3 weeks I only saw her for brief moments. All off a sudden one morning she had 6 little chicks behind her as they foraged and ran around the yard.

this spring we lost Cornellia to a dog attack and a few weeks later lost Joan to a hawk. Since then Kenny and Bianca spend most their time in the run now. I have stopped the rotation of free ranging and Randall is the yard bird now. Jonny is safe in his run, and Kenny has his lady.

My learning curve was pretty steep as I began caring for the American Game Bantams. I had seperated the girls, thinking the boys would be ok out of the run where no girls were... and they were ok with eachother for about a month. At the point when I came out to find them in a 3 way boodbath, I made a large pen for jonny, let kenny in with the girls in the run, and let randall be our yard rooster.

I quickly found this awesome website and build a run/coop after one that I liked in the coop section. THe little chicks grew and my experience into keeping chickens began. One chick died... they turned out to be 3 males and 2 females. Interestingly out of the 5 chicks there are 2 sets of "twins" Kenny and Bianca are black and white and both have a very different comb (pea i think) than the rest. Jonny and Joan are black and brown with a single comb. Randal is a bit more colorful and has brown tips at his wings.

Mirabella and Esmerelda have hobbit names because they have feathered feet... like little hobbit chickens.
