This s a Coronation blue Columbian Marans hen. I incorporated the blue gene from the onset of this experiment. Not the lavender gene. The reasoning was you can do more with a blue gene then you can with a lavender one. This project also produced Silver and Silver blues in Wheaten Marans. And Buff and Buff Blues in Columbian. Lavender genes turn red/gold/buff into cream and would ruin the coloration in those other colors.

These are some of the F3's from a ways back. Bird to the far left is a Buff Columbian. Middle bird is a wheaten/Buff Columbian incomplete. Bird to the right is a incomplete wheaten/speckled. I found out that someplace in the Sussex genome I used that Speckled Sussex genes were there. These F3's are three generations removed from the one time breeding Marans to Sussex. So proves that hidden genes and modifiers, put in, can still come out generations later.

These are two Buff Columbian F4s. Can still see a lot of the incompleteness they have with the wheaten Marans I bred them from.

Buff Columbian Marans. Note the black in the hackles, though it isn't as much as should be there. It is still present. If it was devoid of any black ticking in it's hackles. It would be considered a Black Tailed Buff and not a Columbian.

This is an example of this spring's eggs. Taken from my Columbian Marans. Taken in natural light, but the flash still went off and washed them out a bit.
I'm currently hatching eggs for myself. Generation 8. Will have chicks on the ground by Feb1st 2015.

7th generation of breeder taken last year. Going into the 8th generation this year, 2015. Project started in 2008. And has produced some nice looking Columbian Marans in black and blue Coronations. Egg color is between a 4 and a 5. But some individuals lay lighter and darker each generation.
