Update in case anyone is interested: Just got off the phone with the vet. He said not to stress over the numbers too much. Go ahead and give her the liquid seven days a week instead of five and keep an eye on the shells. We can do a blood test after a month to see how her calcium levels are...
Hi, chickenmeg1. I'm very sorry to hear about what you and your hen are going through.
This is probably a dumb question that would be answered if I had seen your previous threads, but why doesn't her leg bend? Is that an addressable issue? (I'm guessing not or you would have done that already...
Hi, guys,
This thread is a follow up to my thread from the other day asking about liquid calcium I could give my hen that won't eat oyster shells. My vet looked at the two options that were suggested to me and said to go with the one that is formulated for birds rather than the one that's for...
I emailed both of those calcium options to my vet so he can take a look and let me know which one he thinks would be best for her. Thanks so much for posting them. :bow
Since it's seeming like this is going to have to go on for the rest of her life I'd prefer to just be able to put it in her water so she doesn't realize it's happening. She hates getting stuff put into her mouth and I don't want to stress her out every day.
That sounds like exactly what I need! Could I trouble you to link to the product page on the TSC website? I searched "calcium supplement" but there's like 28 pages of results and I don't know what I'm looking for. Thanks so much, and sorry to be a bother.
The only calcium I have given is the calcium gluconate (which is powder so I can mix it with some water and suck it up into a syringe and squirt it down her esophagus). I don't have any of the Calcium Citrate with vitamin D. I can get some if that would be a better choice for her though. She is...
Hi, guys,
I've got a hen that, despite being on layer crumbles, constantly has soft egg issues. She won't eat oyster shells (despite needing them), and I'm wondering if there's any kind of a water soluble calcium supplement I could just mix into her water to make sure she's getting enough?
I...
Hi, guys,
Can someone help me with Baytril dosage? I'm too frazzled to do conversions right now.
My hen is .817 kg. Baytril is 10 mg/kg. That means 8.17 mg, but the Baytril is liquid. It's going to be in mL, not mg. And 1 mg doesn't equal 1 mL. They're not even like units, so you can't convert...
She didn't lay anything else around the weird egg, but today she laid a normal one. So, I don't know. Weird whole thing. Thanks for the link to the photos. To me it looks like this is the same thing as pictured with reference to the hen with the prolapsed oviduct. It was the fifth set of...
