We do not have a rooster. And I'm fairly certain another chicken hasn't been pickin' on her---she seems to be ruling the roost! Until now at least.
That's good to hear that it may only be molting. I was wondering if she had mites or something, I don't know the symptoms of those as we've never...
Hello human friends of chickens! I am concerned for the well-being of my dear little EE hen, Paulie. She has been missing almost all of the feathers on her neck for quite some time now, this started in March of spring 2014. However, I thought it was a normal occurrence, like people balding...
Ok! Thanks! That's good to know, I will give her goodies. Like I asked the person above, do you think it would be ok if the broody breaker was in the run? She could see the other chickens so maybe that would make it easier for her as well.
Ok! Thanks so much! Yeah, I need to break the broodiness.
I keep hearing about these 'broody breakers' away from the other chickens, but would it be ok if I just put it in the run, elevated? Then she could see her friends and wouldn't have to deal with integrating back into the flock?
Thank you all for such helpful answers! Well.... I'm not allowed to get a rooster in my neighborhood (too loud) So I decided to just pull her out of there... She put up quite a fight, but once I took the eggs she went outside normally and ate, drank etc. She'll probably go back to being broody...
I have 6 EE hens and no roosters. One of them, Radagund, has recently gotten SUPER broody! I haven't seen her out of the nesting box in at least a week, and I'm very worried because she won't get off the eggs to eat, sleep, or drink.
When I attempted to reach under her to get the eggs, and...
Hello!
I have a chicken who has a disease, which makes it so she can't hop up onto the roosts with the other chickens. She sleeps on the ground. When the Massachusetts winter comes around (rare lowest temps in the teens F), does she need a heat lamp? Her disease makes her weaker too, so that...
Yes! Finally I just found out the meds! I forgot that during our first trip to the vet's, she was given an injection of Baytril. Then for the antibiotic, she was given something called SMZ antibiotic.
She is doing great now! She's still not really walking, but she full of energy and when I...
Actually, I did most everything myself, teehee. My mom helped with the two-person jobs and the occasional change of food. And as I recall it was about 2 days.
Thank you for all your wonderful words! I will keep updating—like you say, I could help other chickens and owners out there! As to reply to your other post on the other thread, I will try to get the name of the antibiotic we used and update that as well. I say, it worked wonders!
Also in...
[Sorry I didn't respond for awhile! For some reason BYC didn't email me and she was getting so much better I forgot to check this thread.]
Casportpony, I'm not actually sure, but it sure did work after ten days! She regained full mobility of one of her legs; the other remains immobile but she...
