So several weeks later I'm convinced you are on to something! My Leghorn has all but stopped eating her eggs... about the same time I noticed her shells have gotten thicker and harder. I had separated her due to probable heat stroke and I think she was slightly calcium deficient because even...
So I'm not sure if it will work to post this here but for anyone who is still checking posts... he's still alive and things are progressing fairly well I think!
I've started taking more time when I feed treats to get them more used to me, including Bonnie Boy. I've also tried to just spend more...
LOL I've done something similar but not always on purpose!!! I just react to aggression, then I overthink everything, go online and post questions to forums like this!!!!:heBuuutttt... having said that I genuinely put effort into learning what's actual aggression and what's just defensive...
Thank you for the info! I've run into someone who was talking about training roosters, chickens really but roosters specifically. I've started taking more time when I feed treats while taking their suggestions and it seems to be working. That having been said I still refer back to the various...
Unfortunately I'm in deep south Texas and it's not occasional here. I had a mister on them last year and overall have lost two to heat, one almost went down but after several months she's finally back in the coop. None of them were EE. *sigh* This coming year will be educational for sure. Ugh.
Have you had any trouble with them in 112 degrees several months in a row? I'm genuinly curious... My Leghorn went down last year. I finally brought her inside to help her out. I only meant that in a general sense hybrids or "mutts" have fewer issues than pure breds.
I looked at Wyandottes but... I was attempting to stay with breeds who are *supposedly* heat tolerant since we need all the help we can get in that dept and the white Leghorn I have is sweet but I consider her coloring very dull. I like the hardiness of EE being a form of hybrid and I'm...
Thank you for the advice and the article. He was a late bloomer but is still under a year but yes, I am wondering who switched him out! I will give that a shot. I feel like I have a small window to work with since he seems a little uncertain but if I can't nip this in the bud he's gonna end up...
Can't speak to that but I would still take my Border Collie every day of the week and twice on Sundays over the aggravating little shit in my coop who WAS fine and now isn't and I have no idea why.
🤔 Well, he and his hatchmate did come from the same hatchery and it's entirely possible they share genetics. I culled his 'brother' for aggressive behaviour. This one, however, was entirely laid back until now. Which is why I was wondering if it was me he's reacting to.
