I know this is an old thread but I am going through this with two of my Columbian Wyandottes. I am curious as to what hatchery they came from?
The first with it survived after a soaking and being on Baytril - so far she is fine. Now her sister is going through the same thing.
Wasn't sure how to word this. I have 7 hens - only one has started laying. All are fed grower crumbles. I read somewhere that it is okay to keep them all on crumbles and then when one starts to lay to put out oyster shell. My understanding is that only the one who is laying will eat the...
Not real easy to see but Dixie is second from the left. This was taken about a week ago- The silver wyandottes are hard to see but are bigger than the white one.
My runt is named "Dixie" - She is my Dixie Chick! Right now I have all of them in a starter coop - I have a huge coop and run but haven't put them in it yet because I lost my entire flock over a years time to Marek's. So I have disinfected and limed etc and want to get them as big and strong...
I am having the exact same problem. I have 4 chicks that are 8 weeks old - All Wyandottes. One doesn't look much bigger than when I got them at 4 weeks - She has feathered more but is very small. They all get along well. She eats and drinks fine.
Can you give me an update on yours?
I called the people I got them from and they were vaccinated at the hatchery. State vet said that he has never done a necropsy on a hen over a year old that had Mareks. He has been doing for 30 years.
What surprised me is that he didn't seem overly concerned about getting more chickens. He...
I have lost 3 of my 6 to Mareks at 8 months of age. It is very contagious. They all showed different symptoms but all had it. Confirmed by necropsy. All you can do is try to build their immunity up. It's a lousy disease.
She was dead in the coop this morning. I am losing one every month. I felt a lump or growth in her throat last night. She kept stretching her head trying to swallow. Was not gasping or anything and no discharge.
Called the people I bought from who said they had been vaccinated. But...
Baytril - .3 ml-not diluted
Metrodinazole - 1/2 tablet
Penicillin - 1/2 tablet
Safeguard - .3ml
Tonight while feeding her I felt a small mass in her throat - I think in her trachea. She stretches her neck sometimes - I was massaging it for her and felt the lump
This is what's going on now. I have syringe fed hen each evening since her crop is empty when I get home from work. Last night I figured I had nothing to lose so I gave her penicillin, baytril, metrodinazole, nutridrench, and safeguard.
This morning she is still alive and walks around...
Can someone post pics of syringe feeding a hen. I did for 2 of my chickens with no problem but this 3rd one acts like I'm getting it in trachea.
Not doing anything differently but would like step by step to using a syringe
Thanks
