Lazy,
Maybe you misunderstood my post. I am concerned about the chickens health it wasnt a complaint or deal breaker. Im sure her going through this every 4 to 6 weeks is not healthy. I am looking for real options that could break this cycle. I rhouggt of having her sit on non firtile eggs but...
Need some advice. I have a Buff Orpington that is 15 months old she is one of a flock of 6 hens. She started getting broody around 6 or 7 months old. I took all the advice here and put her in broody prison, she was in for about 4 days and signs were gone so back with the flock she went. About 5...
Just to update everyone.
Fecal tests came back negative. Took samples from 3 of the 6 hens and all were clear.
Like posted earlier I gave the flock some yogurt to see if that would help with the diarrhea, it appeared to help. The next day noticed more poop on the backside of the same hen so I...
Have not dewormed the flock. They are only 6 months old didnt think they needed it yet. Neighbor across the street is a vet tech. She said they can do a fecal test for worms so thats gonna happen in the next two days. Depending on the results will determine if I deworm. I have given them some...
Crop feels fine. Food in it through the day full when she goes to roost and empty in the morning. I am going to have a fecal test done soon to rule out worms. As for the peptobismol how much should I give her? She is a 6 month old RIR. Thanks again for the help.
I not sure if all her poops are this way. I noticed her butt was all sticky so we cleaned her butt that led me to think there is a problem. My other 5 hens are ok so I dont think its feed related but no ruling anything out. When I blow the pic up I see little white dots? Could tgose be worm...
Thanks for the reply.
I feed them fermented pellet feed. They have free choice to dry pellets and oyster shells. They free range for 2 to 3 hours a day. Will post pic when I get home from work.
Not sure if I have a problem or not. I have a flock of 6 hens that are just over 6 months old and all are laying. One of the hens has prerty serious diarrhea. It is brown in color, no blood in it. She has had this for about a week and her rear feathers were getting pasty. We cleaned her...
Hello all,
I have researched a lot in the forums and asked many questions so I could be prepared for our 6 chicks when they arrived the first week in May (except they came the first week in April so that put me in scramble mode). I have a plan for the coop/run and its construction will begin...
Debid,
Thanks for the reply.
Currently natural ligbt is not an option (moving them outside to my shed next week then they will have natural light). Light is going from 0 to 100 fhen 100 to 0 currently. Should I use a dimmer to mimick natural light cycle?
Hello,
Im a first timer with chicks and have a question if my chicks behavior is normal. Her is my setup. I have 6 chicks they are 5 days old and I have had them for 2 of those days. I have my brooder in the basement and ambient temp is about 65 degrees. I have the MHP setup with the towel...
Tmarsh,
Thanks for the clarity on sizing. I have plenty of room for coop and run it is me limiting the coop to 4x8 max. As for the run I can go bigger without a doubt but at some point I would like the chickens to be able to roam the back yard when someone is home. My concern is predators. We...
Tmarsh&Jack,
Thank you for the replies. My main concern was the birds keeping warm in rhe larger coop without heat you guys answered that for me so 4x8 it is. So Im clear the 4x8 coop will support max 8 birds and those 8 birds should have minimum 80 sqft of outdoor space.
As for the run under...
